Just what I needed plus.

If you don't have your communication ports set-up, which I didn't because of just re-installing Windows-XP Pro, use the little disc first and set up the port. Then the cable will communicate with your program. The whole cable seems to be well made, and it fit the HT just fine. As did the USB connector.

Already had one on a Windows 8 machine and it works good.

I saw this at a good price and needed to replace the CD/DVD drive in a Windows XP machine, so I got it because I already had a drive like this on a Windows 8 machine and it's worked fine. I got this, installed it, and the Cyberlink software that came with it, and it does fine, using the Cyberlink software makes it easy to do some things. So, it does work with Windows 8 and XP.
