Nureyev at his peak
I saw this movie as a 20-something when it was first released and remember not being impressed by Nureyev's venture into acting.
After buying this and watching this as a near 60 year old woman, boy did I get it wrong before.
This movie is wonderful, he is such an animal and his dancing is dynamic and believable, especially compared to his works in his later years when his illness and age tarnished the dynamics of his youth.
I've always loved everything I've ever seen of his interviews. Such depth of knowledge and sensitivity along with his cunning and smug presentation ... his cockiness. I miss him.
This captures him at his peak.

Sympathy for the Devil (2003, DVD)
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich In trying to educate my son on one of the world's best Rock groups, of course the Rolling Stones is part of the mix. I stumbled across this film created back in the 60's by Goddard. "Sympathy for the Devil" is a curious blend of recording studio footage of the young and upcoming Rolling Stones creating one of their best known masterpieces. We get to witness them developing this song. Unfortunately there is a second unrelated story line that stretches out the recording studio clips. It is interspersed with "artsey," social-political filmwork, but it is well worth the effort to see this wonder of Mick and Keith and the rest of the guys in the recording studio doing their thing, oblivious to the director's camera.
For anyone who thinks music comes easy, this will be an eye opener. Sympathy for the Devil arrives in jerks and pieces, with much time and many cigarette breaks and days and days of work that transforms it at a snail's pace, but all the time the metamorphosis progresses. We all know what the final outcome will be and we get to witness the struggle that brought it to that end.
I wish the director made available more such material or captured other artists in similar fashion. He has masterfully pieced together these snippets.
