An underrated reimagining
Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake of John Carpenter’s classic slasher received its fair share of stick from critics upon release. Claims that it is a soulless, over gratuitous spectacle that lacks suspense. In my opinion, and it seems the opinion of many other horror fans, it is in fact a very solid remake that gives more backstory into Michael Myers with Zombie, who clearly respects and loves the original, putting his own stamp on it.
It is does not better the original but I don’t feel Zombie was setting out to do that and if you compare it to some of the dreadful sequels, including the truly terrible Halloween Resurrection, it is miles better than most other attempts.
So if you have been sceptical about viewing this version of Halloween, my advice would be to go into it putting the negative reputation behind you and just enjoy it for the decent slasher that it is.
