Classic Carmen
This is the full opera with no cuts staged at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 1991. I was lucky enough to see the new production a couple of weeks ago (2008). Comparisons are always difficult but the sheer opulence of the settings in the 1991 production makes it stand out, as does Maria Ewing's suitably manic Carmen.

Still relevant today
Although set in the 70s, the issues are those of today. Both funny and sad.

True Spriit of Aida
This is an excellent production with strong singers. The staging is spot on. There are no cuts in the production - you get the full 140 minutes. Sound quality is excellent and you get optional subtitles in English and Italian plus other languages. As a bonus there is a "making of" feature.
