The MXR Smartgate won't alter your guitar tone.
I tried another brands noisegate pedal and although it did a great job of killing unwanted noise it altered my guitar tone. I checked out a few reviews of the MXR Smartgate on you tube and bought one online. I am only impressed with it - it works well. It,s built to last like all MXR pedals. There's no need to read a manual to work out how to use it - just isolate the kind of noise you want to eliminate with the selector switch and adjust the trigger level to suit.
If you are using reverb or delay pedals the smartgate will kill the tail of these effects so I have positioned it on my board just before the delay and reverb units and after all the modulation and distortion units ( of course ). I am powering it with the MXR DC Brick.
I like everything about the MXR Smartgate - it,s design and functionality and that it keeps your hard earned tone intact.

Awesome overdrive. Lives up to it's reputation.
The Timmy is versatile thanks to having both a treble and a bass control. It also has 3 clipping modes and a surprising amount of gain for a low to moderate gain style overdrive. The build is solid and the layout is clear - bass and treble work in reverse though. Having owned and used many overdrive pedals over many years I feel confident in saying the Timmy is perhaps my favorite thus far for most styles I play. It has a warmth and tonal characteristic all of it's own. I play a wide range of styles and I find it has a place anywhere short of Heavy Metal.
