The Wrecking Crew proves that you were wrong!!
Excellent documentary done by Denny Tedesco, son of guitarist Tommy Tedesco!
When I was a young drummer in the 1960s, outside of practicing rudiments, reading marching band & orchestral charts, and studying exercises in books by Chapin, Podemski, Rubank, Stone, etc., a majority of my development came from listening to and playing along with the drummers on recordings by Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher, Tommy Roe, et.al. Unbeknownst to me at the time, all my favorite drummers were Hal Blaine of the Wrecking Crew! The same is true for guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, saxophonists—in most cases, who you thought were different players who were members of different pop groups were in fact a few West Coast studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew...
