Dawes-North Hills
If Jackson Browne and Richard Manuel had a son he would grow up to write lyrics, songs and sing just like Taylor Goldsmith in a band named Dawes.
This debut CD from Dawes is an honest and engaging set of songs about life and love and the in-between.. Introspective and sensitive, the lyrics are so well done and more engaging than any I've heard in decades (yes I'm that old). Taylor mixes in many references and word pictures in his lyrics to encourage the listener to listen harder. Give a listen to 'When My Times Come; and then listen again and again and again - it's a masterpiece.
If you believe like I do that music is the language of the soul, then you'll thoroughly enjoy Dawes - North Hills. .

Mogami 2524 Guitar Cable Gold Series
I had suspicions my existing cables were 'coloring' the sound of my guitar signal chain in unfavorable ways and when I tried the new Mogami cables I heard just how much this was occurring.
As I swapped cables out one by one, I heard the shrillness of one cable (an old Fender cable), the lack of clarity with Monster cables, and mushy / bassy qualities I heard from a no-name cable.
Positive things from this experience are that I heard what my guitars actually sound like (with high quality cables) - maybe for the first time. Additionally, my speakers (Celestion V30s and JBL E120s) reacted differently to my amplifier (Hughes and Kettner Statesman EL34) settings and my DigiTech RP1000 modeler. I finally heard more accentuated lows, mids, and highs - and sounds that no longer 'mushed up' or 'spiked'. I can actually use the neck pick-up on my Strats now.
This experience has forced me to re-dial in my settings and change how I used the power amp, effects loop, the clean and gain channels on the amp, and my effects. Not 100% complete yet, however, I'm getting closer.
