Operating the switch requires too much force for use in a ceiling fan.

The switch will not operate in a ceiling fan because there is too much resistance when pulling the chain. Either the chain will break or the fan will have damage. In addition to excessive resistance, the chain is pulled at a right angle to the switch, which exacerbates the problem.
