Von Karajan and the Berlin P.O. play Opera Intermezzi
"What's that music you are playing, it's lovely ?" This is the response I get every time I play this wonderful recording. These are 'Intermezzi' from various operas, some famous, most unfamiliar, but all beautifully presented. 'Cav and Pag', La Traviata and Jewels of the Madonna are here as well as the less familiar Adriana Lecouvreur, L'amico Fritz and Suor Angelica. This is Karajan at his most passionate and the Berlin P.O. responds with equal intensity. The original LP was finely recorded and the long-awaited transcription to CD is equally marvellous. The twelve intermezzi are music to wallow in, richly textured and unforgettable.

A great memory lane to explore
Absolute nostalgia for me and for the four other people who grabbed it to read after me. The author covers all aspects of life in Britain during the period, especially the war years. Of course for younger generations it will be a history lesson of a period they have no idea about - about asfar removed fro them as the Victorian period is to us Forties kids.
