enemy at the gates (stalingrad)
Great film - watched it several times now and a true story (largely).Jude law excellent in the role assisted by rachel weiss and Bob Hoskins as Krushev - of course known more famously in the west for the cuban missile crisis of 1961.The desparate opening scenes show how war was conducted by the soviets at the time . The lack of equipment and training and the murderous way men were made to fight are shown well in the film . Stationing machine guns behind advancing troops and telling the men they would be shot in no uncertain terms by their own side was just the start of the hell hole of stalingrad - the turning point of the war for the soviets and the west.
