Legendary Sansui Masterpiece!
The HF-L60 is very rare. It is one of the earliest of Sansui's tube amplifiers, circa 1956 and built to last with top choice custom wound transformers and based on a reliable 6L6 tube circuit. These amplifiers are the larger brothers to the HF-V60 and should not be confused with this smaller, lighter weight version. The HF-L60 provides 20 watts of mono power and is designed to power the SR-333 (or similar) tube tuner preamplifier.
The overall amplifier is an exceptional choice if restored - it produces a very musical tone with muscular & controlled bass and rythmic midrange that will likely thing second about any advancements in the audio hobby. The amplifiers are striking in appearance with a hammer-tone finish, retro power indicator lamp, typical Sansui heft, and a monsterious output transformer that closely resembles that of the McIntosh line of products from the era (MC30, MC40). Remember, this were produced at a time when Sansui's goal was to become the premier manufacturer of transformers as well as top fidelity audio equipment.
If you happen to come across one of these, you'll likely require a restoration merely because of the age of the components. However, many of these (such as the high quality wound resistors) will probably have stood the test of time and will likely test well - special attention should be paid to the capacitors which will require replacement.
Find a pair, run them in stereo and you will have found both audio paradise as well as pride in ownership of such a rare piece of Sansui history.
Enjoy!
