    2 X FUJIMI 1:72nd SCALE WESTLAND SEA KING HELICOPTER KITS # 7A29
    21. Apr 2017
Decent model kits of a favorite subject, the SH-3 Sea King.
This kit is more a Sikorsky replica than a Westland replica. Very easy to use to replicate either an early USN or RCN Sea King, which I have planned for each of these, so I will have extra parts left over as well as the decals. I already have the USN version which has parts for later versions. The kits still hold up against other more recent offerings, but give you a great starting point if you are looking to do early versions like an SH-3A or CHSS-2. Has the older style rotor blades, 5 blade tail rotor, short horizontal tail unit. With a little work and a few parts from the spares box a couple of respectable models can be built.
Print Scale Decals 1/72 GRUMMAN S-2 TRACKER U.S. Navy ASW Aircraft

Welcome new, alternate markings for an older model kit.
Have been looking for a sheet like this with alternative markings for the old 1/72 Hasegawa(and the Mini Craft, the Revell, and the Hobby Craft versions) S2F-1, S-2A Tracker kit. I got tired of the VS-21/JMSDF markings. Until I can find conversions for an S-2E/G, I will have to use them just as a source for modifications. Likewise was disappointed with the 3rd set of markings on the sheet, supposedly for VS-24 (which are adequately covered in the Revell issue, along with the Dutch markings). Someone must have not been paying close enough attention, because they seemed to have actually modeled their sister squadron VS-27 mistakenly. The markings fit that squadrons scheme, all except for the squadron stencil "VS-24". Also the Bureau Number 134723 is spurious, as it does not exist for any Grumman Tracker, it was assigned to a P2V-5 Lockheed Neptune, which went to the Netherlands and later to Portugal. Likewise the Sea-Blue version was already covered in the Hobby Craft issue, so it also is nothing "new". It would actually have been better to have made three (or six) actual accurate Atlantic fleet S2F-1/1S, S-2A, S2F, TS-2A, US-2A, or US-2B Trackers and three (or six) Pacific Fleet versions, instead of types which have not been issued as model kits and are generally wasted. I don't think a modeler was actually consulted when this sheet was designed, as more US Navy VS would have made the sheet a better seller than including two off shore users, which could have been as a separate sheet.
Douglas AD/A-1 Skyraider (Naval Fighters) by Ginter, Steve

Highly detailed text on every verson of the AD and it's use by USMC.
As with most Ginter Books, this volume is chock full of information to partner with the second volume which details the US Navy's use. I do wish they had included the use by 849 Naval Air Squadron of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm in either volume, but that's probably going to go in a future volume three which will probably be devoted to Foreign air forces. If you are looking for a good rivet counting type of book, this (and the other Ginter books) are for you.
