Product Information

This compact mid-telephoto lens uses AD (anomalous-dispersion) glass elements to provide apochromatic correction. It produces images with excellent color balance and sharpness from 4.9' to infinity, while its internal focusing system provides high-speed autofocus. This lens comes with a protective front filter and a focus-hold button conveniently located on the side of the lens barrel, and adjusting the focusing range is easily done using the focusing range ring.

The 200 2.8 A-Mount solution I was looking for
The Minolta HS 200mm f2.8 is a fantastic lens for sports or portrait photography. Pros: --compact for a 200mm 2.8 lens, short enough to get into many pro sports venues without credentials. --fast focus, on par with Canon USM lenses like the EF 200 2.8. --Nice colors and sharp --Metal body makes it very durable. --convenient retractable hood. Cons: --not an SSM lens, uses old screwdrive AF motor so it is a little loud for some tastes. --old technology (1988!) so it may be a challenge to get it fixed. --Minolta was bought by Sony years back, so limited support available outside of the internet forums. --it is white, so you'll get noticed

Great Lens for a lot cheaper than the Newer version. Its solid and made of metal vs plastics.
It is working Great with my New Sony cameras. Great Value with Great Pictures of landscapes and action shots. A lot faster than expected and Auto focus is very accurate. I give it 4.5 Stars.

Sharp edge to edge
Pros: Very sharp edge to edge at f2.8 Fast focus with little hunting Great Minolta colors Excellent Bokeh Internal zoom Cons: AF motor has heavy draw on battery The lens is a bit heavy (which you should expect with a 200mm 2.8) Susceptible to CA without hood. Finish is easily scratched.

Fantastic lens, crisply sharp!
Superfast, silent and extremely sharp. If you are looking for quality this Minolta is the answer.
