An inspiring read. I first read it when I was preparing to travel around the world alone after selling my house and belongings. This book helped me realise that so many intrepid historical women had powerfully taken their own personal and societal risks and thrived in the pursuit of living fully.
The book doesn't gloss over difficulties and challenges. It leads you to discover the depths of experience, observation and the triumphs of real people. There are superb memorable quotes throughout. They and the many stories of true exploits are very affirming for us modern adventurer's. This has remained one of my favourite books about the gritty and soaring spirit of travel and works well to strengthen and enhance confidence ahead of striking out alone in the world as a capable independent woman. The separate sections work well to highlight the wisdom and insight of adventurous women across many varied methods of travel, many being unrecognised pioneers or explorers in their chosen field - including a namesake Hubbard of the Klondike goldrush.
