Generally regarded as the pre-eminent work of Conrad's shorter fiction, Heart of Darkness is a chilling tale of horror which, as the author intended, is capable of many interpretations. Set in the Congo during the period of rapid colonial expansion in the 19th century, the story deals with the highly disturbing effects of economic, social and political exploitation of European and African societies and the cataclysmic behaviour this induced in some individuals. The other two stories in this book – Youth and The End of the Tether – concern the sea and those who sail upon it, a genre in which Conrad reigns supreme.

A fabulous copy of timeless stories
My review is basically for the product itself and not the content, although the prose in old stories is beautiful compared to the modern books of today. It is a gift for a brother who loves old books, the smell of the pages, the feel of it in his hands and the love of stories about the sea (him being a professional diver all his life). He despises using any sort of technological device for reading, so this is perfect for him.I Many of the old stories and author's are shunned as being too difficult to read, but their talent for writing a great adventure is second to none in a time when self published rubbish is churned out.
