Enthralling and entertaining on many levels.
This book sheds a lot of light on a period of history that has been consistently misrepresented. It brings to life the historical (non passive) role played by the African nations which I don’t recall being mentioned anytime the ‘Crusades’ were being taught or discussed in my UK school. A very informative read.
