Created by well-known TV executive Stephen J. Cannell (HUNTER, THE A-TEAM, 21 JUMP ST.), THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO was an acclaimed show that was cancelled before its time. ABC seemed unsure how to market the show's blend of superhero action with comedy, which seems prescient in regards to later superhero satires like MYSTERY MEN and THE INCREDIBLES. Ralph Hinkley is a normal high school teacher who has a close encounter of the third kind, and is rewarded with a super-powered pajama suit. The problem is, he doesn't quite know how to work the thing. Gung-ho FBI agent Bill Maxwell knows Ralph's secret, and with his connections and the help of girlfriend Pam, Ralph travels around the world to save the day. The unfairly cancelled spoof can now be re-appreciated after years as a cult curiosity.

Great Story, Good Directing
Typical catastrophe film where the military causes the disaster. This is a remake of a 1973 film. This is a well written story and the acting and the directing is well done. There are some really scary and suspenseful scenes. Several scenes keep you on the edge of your seat. I am a fan of Timothy Olyphant, so I had to buy this one.

If you are a fan you will love it
No High Def back then so the standard def is as good as it gets and still pretty good. The plot line is pretty thin but the situations are entertaining and watching Ralph learning how to use the suit without the instructions is pretty funny.

"OKAY, RALPH, PUT ON THE SUIT AND HERE'S THE SCENARIO, COUNSELOR!"...5 STARS VERY WAY HIGH!
A great 1980's television series! Never missed an episode as a little kid back then. A very funny spoof on the DC Comics' Green Lantern hero. Instead of giving the earthling a ring, the aliens give Ralph Hinkley a red and black super hero suit that gives him a whole bunch of powers but Ralph loses the instructions to the suit. Was always hilarious to see Ralph clumsily and terrifyingly discover what powers that the suit had. I loved that they gave such an optimistically liberal character like Ralph an negatively uptight, highly conservative partner, F.B.I. agent: Bill Maxwell, played brilliantly by the late great Robert Culp! This show is fantastic and highly recommended!

Loved this as a kid, still makes me laugh today
This is one of the few shows that I let my grandchildren watch. I loved this as a child myself and find it just as funny now as I did back then. Cheesy, campy, and totally classic-era Americana. Who doesn't love a cute guy in tights flying around (or trying to) in the sky.
