Good mid life kicker but spendy
This seems to be the best choice among the very few choices available in the market in 2021. With a sata 3 SSD installed and connected to a 10 Gbps thunderbolt 1 port on a iMac, a maximum of about 400 MBps can be sustained in both directions. This is less what the SATA drive is capable of in its native environment, namely around 550 MBps. Other websites confirm this, and so does the manufacturer when I recently wrote them about this "underperformance." Still, it's way better than the iMac's internal hard drive, and save having to open it up to install the SSD inside. More expensive though...
