Easy to get very good results
Back in the 1980s, I used to sell Tascam pro gear and was lucky to be able to buy an open reel stereo tape deck for the staff price of £300. It was brilliant but this little recorders beats its performance hands down! Hours of recording time at resolutions all the way up to 24/96, decent on-board mics (although omni, so will pick up noisy audiences) and the limiter can be switched in for recordings with no audible 'pumping', but no overloads either.
It's generally easy to use, with consistent navigation orthodoxies and simple interface. However, I would definitely recommend you to worth through all the settings to discover for yourself which gives the best results for your particular application.
So far, I have no specific criticisms – and I used it in anger at a gig the other day, then pulled the sound files into my computer, tweaked them in Logic Pro, exported MP3s and uploaded to the web no problem – but I suspect dropping this little fella might not do it a lot of good. Still, I could say that about my Sony camcorder, which I used on the same gig. Being able to move the camera angles while having static audio gave me a lot of new editing possibilities.
