My Favorite Compact Home Theater Speakers
It’s a real shame that KEF no longer makes the egg-like version of the KHT series (as of 2018, these are no longer in production). Why is it a shame? Because simply put, this is my favorite compact speaker system. Not only is the form factor compact, but they have a tremendous metal enclosure with outstanding build quality. They fit in nearly any space and you can also purchase KEF stands designed for this model. This makes them suitable for nearly any space. Well it isn’t just about the size and build. These speakers are bright (but not metallic) with great clarity. Their sound signature reminds me of the twinkling sound you get from a nice pair of planar magnetic hifi headphones. This is all rounded out by the deep even tone of the bundled subwoofer. The sub seems to handle both long sustained cinematic rumble just as well as the natural cross-over tones to fill in the sound of the bright satellite speakers. I own two sets of these speakers and couldn’t be happier with both purchases.
