Not Really Whole house
I've used this type of filter for about 25 years. I have hard water and eventually these become inoperative and will leak. Not it's fault but the fault of my water. I use it primarily for the kitchen cold water. In that location a charcoal filter will last about three months; why I say not a whole house filter. It will work in that capacity if you are willing to change filters more frequently. But at about $14 per filter, getting filtered water going down your toilets is going to get very expensive.

Great particulate filter!
This filter system is Great for well water! It filters particulates that can come from a well. I have used these for years and they trap rust from city water too.
