This dreamlike fairytale captures the coming-of-age of a young Czechoslovakian girl. As her burgeoning sexuality sparks even more haunting escapades, Valerie must contend with an explosively surreal world that challenges and inspires her. Jaromil Jires' film is surprisingly sensitive and visually spectacular.

Excellent transfer
The DVD looks beautiful, bringing the vivid colours and wide range of bright and dark to life on my led tv. The film is probably not everyone's cup of tea, though, as it is not inconsiderably weird. Think Jodorowsky or Svankmeyer. I loved it and the extras are well worth watching
