SynopsisIn a grand and immemsely readable synthesis of historical, political, cultural, and economic analysis, a prize-winning historian describes the events that made the American Revolution. Gordon S. Wood depicts a revolution that was about much more than a break from England, rather it transformed an almost feudal society into a democratic one, whose emerging realities sometimes baffled and disappointed its founding fathers.

  • Best Book on American Revolution

The title of this review says it all. This book won the Pulitzer Prize for good reason. Start here for discussion of the revolution. The term RADICALISM is used because this book shows why the break from Britain was so astoundingly radical. It was not simply self-government instead of British rule. It was a monumental change which shapes the course of the country even today.
