The DVD package, not the sleeve was a bit wrinkled. I have not viewed all of it yet, but what I have viewed is good quality. The story of Tchaikovsky starring Grant Williams was the reason I purchased it. It is a short and in color. I really had to go down down into the dvd to find it. An Internet site was what told me it was on disc one, or I would have missed it. Appropriate, of course, for always hiding any of Grant Williams performances (Incredible Shrinking Man. He was beautiful, and very underrated. I read that he really was an accomplished classical musician, so he must be playing in these sequences. And it is so entertaining to see both Leo Askin and John Banner of Hogan's Heroes fame on this. The sequences on disc two showing the history of animation were also fascinating. I am so glad I found this, and reasonably priced. I hoped the rest of the CD plays well. Vollständige Rezension lesen

This 2-disc DVD has many informative bonus features about one of Disney's masterpieces, Sleeping Beauty. The picture and sound are great, too!

Disney's 1959 animated effort was the studio's most ambitious to date, a widescreen spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapting Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked Queen in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs taunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her 16th birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Things almost but not quite turn out that way, thanks to the assistance of some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. It's not really all that much about the title character--how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here. And Malificent's castle, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur.Vollständige Rezension lesen
My daughter's favorite princess is Sleeping Beauty. I had never seen the movie, and we decided to purchase it for her. It is well done as one would expect from classic Disney, complete with beautiful music to encourage little ears to have appreciation for many genres of music. This particular disc set includes the restored film plus wonderful extras including music from the composer Tchaikovsky and a story about his life, and much more. The disc set has much to offer the little Disney princess lover, and even the boys should love the scary parts of the film. (a little scary for very small children) My only dislike was the music video after the film of the goofy remake of "Once Upon a Dream" that didn't fit the quality of the song. Overall, a great purchase!
I liked cartoons as a child whether they were long, short, funny, scary, in color or in black and white. I especially loved the ones from Walt Disney and as an adult I've grown to appreciate them in other ways. Sleeping Beauty was one of my favorites among Bambi, Pinocchio, 101 Dalmatians, Fantasia and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Sleeping Beauty has lost none of the magic that it did when I was very young. I don't explode with emotion and excitement very often, but I caught myself on the edge of my seat during some of the scenes. I am still amazed how Walt Disney Studios has restored the movie. The color is brilliant, scratches, blemishes and flaws are gone and the soundtrack is enhanced in 5.1 surround sound. The bonus features are numerous and some appeal to a younger crowd while the documentaries about the film will interest a more mature audience. The 50th Anniversary 2-Disc Platinum Edition is now a wonderful part of my library and if you are a fan of Walt Disney animated features then by all means get a copy.Vollständige Rezension lesen
