It includes how magic works and how you can design spells that incorporate stones and metals. Author Scott Cunningham also describes how you can use stones for doing divinations, even using them as a type of Tarot. But it is the second part where this book really shines. It reveals magical uses of over 100 crystals, gems, stones, and metals. Now, you may know what gold or quartz looks like, but do you know what peridot or staurolite look like? If not, don't worry. Great & Knowledgeable book to buy!
This was a gift for my Niece, and she loves it! I already have one, and I loved mine! It goes over everything you need and want to know, especially for someone who is starting to explore their journey in magick!!! Has a vast variety of knowledge in a great book from a reliable author & teacher - Cunningham!!! A Little Gem of a Reference for Crystal Magic
The obvious shortcomings are the small number of stones covered (not at all like the exhaustive volumes by Judy Hall) and lack of 'visual' appeal as each crystal entry is not accompanied by a reference photo (Instead, there are several pages with color photos in the center of the book, rather typical of the books published in that era.). The lack of convenient visual guide may be frustrating to people who are new to crystals and not quite familiar with the names and appearances, but if you are familiar with most of the stones covered in other books, such as Crystal Bible volumes by aforementioned Judy Hall, it is not a problem. I wish I would have had a chance to hear what Scott had to say about some of the newly introduced/discovered crystals and how he would have incorporated them into his practice (He passed away too young...). But for what the book covers, it is rich in details and certainly adds to the knowledge base of anyone who are looking to work with crystals in their magical practice. It is definitely not just another beginner's crystal reference book that rehashes what has been said before. It doesn't have any pictures in it to compare the stones that I have already. But I am still going to use it because it describes what each stone is used for when it comes to Healing and Reiki.
