Opera Ecstasy
Being able to purchase this hard to find opera video was more exciting to me than you can ever imagine! It is quite possibly my favorite opera, and will bring me hours of joy for many years to come. The price was beyond reasonable, which understandably added to my delight! Thank you so much!

Magical performance!
Hvorostovsky and Fleming are riveting in their nuanced portrayals of the aloof Onegin (Hvorostovsky) and the pensive Tatiana (Fleming). Supporting cast includes a sweet Lenski found in Ramon Vargas and a saucy Olga as played by Elena Zaremba. Conductor Valeriy Gergiev, anauthority of Russian classical music interpretation, and no wonder- he brings Tchaikovsky's lush, intimate score with brilliant color and deft juxtaposition of warmth and cool tones.

This opera is my favorite!
I love both lead singers, especially Hvorostovsky, one of the top baritones in the world. Unfortunately, he died a few years ago. Love him, love him! Both he and Fleming are fantastic opera singers.

Wonderful performances.
Like many operas, this one will have to grow on me. I expect to like it more after listening to it a couple times.

Eugege Onegin
I purchased this DVD because the baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky was the greatest of his generation and died on November 22, 2017.This opus by Tchaikovsky is at the heart of Russian opera. All the singers were excellent and one could feel the love and admiration for the music. The great Valery Gergiev was the conductor and the orchestra was outstanding. And now we get to the one flaw. It is a production by the NY Metropolitan Opera and the only thing that sucks was the Met obviously had no set designer. All 3 acts looked like "An Opera in a Box" with dead leaves all over the stage. But dead leaves aside, this DVD should be purchased by anyone who truly loves music. Dmitri Hvorostovsky was one of a kind and will remain beloved by all who hear his magnificent voice.
