A great film

Started of promisingly
As it gathered momentum it got confused between a psychological drama and a study of (unlikely) relationships. I thought it highly improbable that the John Hurt character could be so disinterested in his gorgeous, vibrantly sexy wife (Susannah York) and that she was content to immerse herself in a strange form of rural village life without question. There was no logic in her willingness to become a slave to the psychiatric patient (Alan Bates) who worked hard to seduce her and claimed he could teach Hurt to kill with a shout.
