Dr. Joel Fleishman (Rob Morrow) never wanted to leave New York, but the lure of paying off his medical school bills by working in a remote area seems too good to pass up. However, the quirky citizens and sheer inconvenience of small town Alaska have him pining for the next flight back to Manhattan. Though Joel grudgingly stays, it takes him a while to adjust. What with the town's feisty mayor/pilot, Maggie (Janine Turner); ex-astronaut turned pompous millionaire Maurice J. Minnifield (Barry Corbin); and Joel's problems with the cycles of the sun, the weather, and everything else about the wild country, each episode provides a wealth of rich character studies and complex, universally appealing humour. Contains all six series of the show.

Quirky, poignant and philosophical show, brilliantly written and acted
Set in the fictional Alaskan town of Cicely, populated by a community of diverse eccentrics including an ex-NASA astronaut, Northern Exposure begins with the arrival of the young down on his luck doctor Joel Fleishman, and his and our introduction to the colourful locals. Whilst definitely quirky and offbeat, this show is also often very poignant and philosophical with brilliantly drawn characters who live out their lives in a world full of odd customs, social conventions and stories which, although strange, you can relate to and fully immerse yourself in. When I originally saw this series when it was first broadcast in the early '90s, I thought it so good that it was worth the TV licence fee alone.

Excellent series
Each of the characters, have a different view on life, and tell their story in their unique way. Brilliant. Moving along at a slower pace than the hustle and bustle of modern city life, makes the viewer relax , and enjoy the moment.

More information, was needed.
Product was new and unopened but it was not advertised as needing to being played in a certain region. The US is region and these dvd's will only play in region 2 so had to get a non region player which added to the cost and I would have boughten from a US source. Otherwise once I could play the discs it was good.

Northern Exposure DVD set.....
Got to love a trip down memory lane....it was great then (early '90s) and still great now....timeless and engaging....
