Excellent book for history buff or mechanical tinkerers alike!
The writing is by a gentleman with no skills at writing, but he is a great story teller and is talking about American history of a young man joining the new Air Force wing of the army and the his life story of inventing and designing. Very interesting even if hard to read at times. A slice of American history from the 1920’s to the 2000’s. When American was actually great! Worth the read.

There will never be another Smokey
The book is written in a form that feels like Smokey is right there, puffing his pipe and telling his story. Should have a sub-title, "The World According to Smokey."

Best Damn Read
A story that is refreshingly politically incorrect, historically antidotal, a great read. As a literary style I would term it “redneck Hemingway”.
