Enjoy an off the wall comedy drama about the film industry is this wildly entertaining movie 'Boogie Nights.' Set in Los Angeles in the 1970s, this story chronicles a group of eccentrics that get involved in the adult film industry with director Jack Horner, played by Burt Reynolds. Jack hopes to leave his mark in Hollywood with more artful adult films. He believes actor Eddie Adams, played by Mark Wahlberg, is the right guy to help that dream come to life. Under stage name Dirk Diggler, Eddie begins to rise to unexpected fame; however, he also gets embroiled in a dark path of drugs and violence that he must try to fight his way out of. The seedy,dirty,over-sexed, perverse side of life in the late 70s and early 80s.
This movie has a good sound track of disco dance music from that period. The characters in it are all morally corrupt and damaged, so they go through the fun good times and still wind up falling from the top of the porn movie business down to the ditches of life's rough road. There is excessive cocaine use, where some people die while bleeding out of their nose, other people get beaten up severely and some go broke in time. I was getting a bit disgusted and nauseous by the middle of this movie. It was a morality play to me about those who take recreational drugs and get sex crazy will wind up suffering for their sins in the end. I won't be watching it again. There is soft core sex and a bit of perversion even in this movie, in addition to a bit of male frontal nudity.This movie made me feel sad and "bummed out". If you want to see it you'll have to buy it. It was the only one of Burt Reynolds movies he was nominated for an Oscar.
