Excellent sound quality from Sennheiser.
Having purchased my last new pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD420s) back in the early 1980s I decided that it was time to source something a little more modern. My instincts were to check out what might be suitable but I always find myself drawn towards Sennheiser. I had seen several reviews of this item and was surprised to note that many reviewers considered the HD650s as good as, or even superior to, Sennheisers more recent and more expensive offerings so I decided to take a risk on a supposed opened but unused set, at considerably lower cost than a sealed box direct from a retailer. In the past I was always concerned that the HD420s lacked bass, although they were otherwise quite alright but times do of course change and technology has been known to improve too. Happily, lack of bass is not a problem with the HD650s as they dig quite deeply into the lower octaves, bass is revealed when it is present and comes in with quite a kick at times. Very unlike the HD420s. I also have an old pair of HD490s that I picked up second hand many years ago and these too have bass, but the general sound is rather muddy and bass cut from the amplifier is certainly necessary. No such problem with the HD650s, everything comes over loud and very clear and we have all heard the old the old chestnut "hearing things that I haven't heard before" but in this case that it is completely true. I am only left to wonder what on earth must a very expensive pair of headphones sound like? As far as comfort is concerned, it took only a few hours for the initial tightness to ease and they are now as comfortable as any of the others in my collection, probably superior in fact. Sound leakage from the open backs is quite low, but this must be borne in mind if you intend to use them in a quiet environment where such leakage could disturb others. Of course being open backed means that the outside world is present at all times thence they would not be suitable for noisy environments and there is of course no element of sound cancellation. These are wired high fidelity head phones may not be suitable for all modern equipment and you should consult your owners manuals for an compatibility issues before purchasing but if you are in the market for a new set of cans I think that you are otherwise on safe ground with a set of these.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Buy , better than HD600's
Wonderful NATURAL sound, no tinny treble. I have two pairs of HD650's & one HD600. I edit my traditional jazzband CD,s & they are so good [being 300 ohm] that editing issues can be detected , [if you know where to listen], that good speakers miss. The headband is abit tight but it can be stretched ok. My other Stens. are fine after 20 years use . A head amp is essential for quality or a good seperate CD player h/phone skt. Great sound.
Probably one of the most famous pairs of headphones of all time does genuinely live up to the hype. Yes there is a little high-freq trail off, but they are not as dark as some haters would have you believe (the so-called 'Sennheiser veil'). They do NOT respond well to being plugged into cell phones or portable players. If you can't plug these into at least a stereo hifi amplifier's headphone socket, or better still into a dedicated headphone amplifier, save your money because you will not get the best from them.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu

HD650 - An outstanding headphone.
It's comfortable and light. Clamp can be a little harsh at first. They are easy enough to run but don't really come to life unless they are used with an amp. This headphone scales really well with better gear. They sound sublime. Bass is all there when needed. Though they are not bass cannons. The mids are simply some of the best available at any price. A Class Act!
I bought the Senheiser HD650 headphones following extensive research. Whilst I could not stretch to to HD800 , these were the top rated headphones only a couple of years ago. I use them principally in a radio studio which has a quality amplifier on the headphone sockets. The music is well recorded jazz including SACDs and Blu-Spec cds. The outcome has been marvelous making my programme an absolute joy. I recommend them highly. I have just invested in a Kimber cable for the 650 so I expect even greater things! Simply the best....
The best pound for pound headphone on the planet! I have owned some of the most expensive headphones you can buy, and although some have more bass, a slightly wider soundstage, brighter treble, none are as linear or more involving or have the timbre of the Sennheiser HD 540. Much better than 598

Good Cable
Find the cable very good. Connections are tight and seem as good as the ones on the original cable. This is a balanced cable unlike the original, and I can thus use my HD 650s with the Pono in balanced output mode which to my ears is a much better sound (more soundstage and 'relaxed' power).Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu
