An affectionate parody that pays homage to the FRANKENSTEIN films (from the novel FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley) directed by James Whale in the 1930s, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is both a zany comedy and a cinematic tour de force. Written by director Mel Brooks and the film's star, Gene Wilder, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN has all the usual--and in this case slightly unusual--suspects: the reluctant scientist Frederick Frankenstein, who is actually the grandson of the infamous creature-creator (pronounced "Fronken-steen" and played by Wilder), his spoiled fiancée (Madeline Kahn), Igor the pop-eyed hunchback (Marty Feldman), his dizzy assistant (Teri Garr), the castle's hideous head housekeeper (Cloris Leachman), and, of course, the Monster (Peter Boyle). Highlights include the sets, which are the original ones used in the Whale films; the beautiful black-and-white cinematography; and the fine screenplay. Combining noirish elegance with uproarious sight gags and double entendres is a feat Brooks pulls off fabulously, directing the wonderful ensemble to act with sensitivity and humanistic feelings as well as with lunatic abandon. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is a treat from beginning to end.

Hilarious version of Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein filmed all in black-and-white to give the original looking field of the original Frankenstein. The story is about the grandson or great grandson of Frankenstein, who hates to be called that name because was associated with it But learns he can reanimate life. The movie is as funny as it can be with lines that you really have to listen to to catch Some of the same cast that were in blazing saddles Gene Wilder and Melbrook both had a fear of Frankenstein when they were young kids and I thought of making a parody of it created this classic movie that has some of the most rememberable lines. Outtakes if you can find them are hilarious because a lot of things they did were ad Lib. Extremely funny great movie

A classic, side-splitting comedy. One of the all-time greats.
A friend and I were both going through tough times several months ago, so I purchased some classic comedy DVDs. We watched this together, and it was great for our mental health! Laughter truly is one of the best medicines. So many great performances here: Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Terri Garr, and Peter Boyle. I highly recommend this film.

Funny spoof on Frankenstein!
Very good movie. Follows the original Frankenstein story lines, but instead of the dark, scary tale, you see a satirical side with laughs throughout. Cast of characters are perfect for their roles.

Hilarious and Habit-forming!
This classic comedy is more than one of my old Halloween favorites. I have watched, and will continue to do so, as a go-to resource any time I need a good laugh. All the performances are great and the jokes flow in a steady stream from beginning to end. I never tire of it!

How I liked Young Doctor Frankenstein.
I never saw the movie when it first came out. But I do remember it being released when I was a teenager. Now I saw it in my 60s. I loved it. Quite funny, great actors, I really enjoyed the making of YDF, on the special features segment. The monster was played by Ray Ramono’s dad, from Everybody Loves Raymond. He was a young man as the monster in YDF. But you may not recognize him. Excellent film. Highly recommended. Every actor is hilarious.

Abby something....Abby Normal I think it was
Once again, Mel Brooks delivers the non-stop laughs in this send up of the Frankenstein monster movies. The jokes just keep coming whether it’s subtle or in your face, you’ll laugh. The actors all do a great job with a great script. I highly recommend it for purchase. Funny funny stuff.

One of the Best!!!
Mel Brooks created a great wonder when he made this movie!!!! Gene Wilder is amazing and does a wonderfully awesome job as Dr. Frankenstein's grandson. It is a funny, funny film.

Young Frankenstein
This is a favorite movie of mine. I love how the characters develop throughout the movie. Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman. Terri Garr and Madeline Kahn have wonderful chemistry onscreen. Add in Cloris Leachman as Frau Blucher and you have hilarious scenes. Peter Boyle as the monster and the great Gene Hackman round out this cast. Oh..and Abby Normal :) One last thing...It's Fronkenstien.

An Electrifying Purchase
I love Mel Brooks’ sassy take on Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale. A fabulous transformation as the movie characters come to life! I laughed as I watched it and for many days thereafter. Shipping was free and fast, and the price was right.

Good value; plays well in the DVD player.
I usually borrow my dad's copy, but I thought it was time to get my own. 'Young Frankenstein' is a staple for Halloween movie night, and I'm glad I got a copy now. Get some Ovaltine and roll in ze hay. You won't (Blucher) neigh at this comedy.
