World War II is reborn with the Close Combat Trilogy from Microsoft. These war/simulation games will bring you into the fires and hell of many historic battles, such as the Normandy campaign, Operation Market Garden and leading a brigade of soldiers on the Russian front. You must pick your side, soldiers and then make history. In the first of the games, D-day is the event that you are faced with. You can choose whether you want to be on the hardened German side, defending the beaches or you can be the allies and advance all the way to St. Lo. Controlling parties, deploying units and tactical strategies are all things that will come into play. The second CD-ROM, Close Combat: A bridge too far takes place about 3 months after the D-Day landings. You and your troops must participate in Operation Market Garden, where the largest para-trooper assault in history was held. You can either join the fight and preserve history or write your own by siding with the Germans. The third game, Close Combat: The Russian Front is a prequel of sorts as you and a Russian squad are bombarded by German attacks near your borders in 1941. You must defend with all of your might, due to the government's lack of belief in a German assault. Reinforcements will not be plentiful so use your men wisely. With multiple mission objectives, spanning terrain and multi-player support you can be ready for the fight of your life where the combat is always close!
