The brainchild of star Patrick McGoohan, the series followed the adventures of No. 6 (McGoohan), a former secret agent who is being held captive in a highly secured village, the location of which remains a mystery throughout the series. This groundbreaking and innovative show reached an unfortunate end when British TV bosses got cold feet following low ratings and increasingly strange story lines. But McGoohan himself took control and steered the show to an ending that continues to cause great debate among THE PRISONER's faithful fans. Captured by The Prisoner
I remember watching this series as a teen when it premiered. I loved it then; and I still do. This series was a sequel to the series "Secret Agent Man". That was a straightforward spy tale; but "The Prisoner" takes off into left field right away. The main character wants to resign, but there is no resigning: he is drugged, kidnapped, and taken to a weird little scenic village at an undisclosed location. Everyone there has a number; and there are a lot of weird mind-control experiments going on to make the main character reveal why he wanted to quit. And he's always trying to escape. An intriguing story line. This set is nicely packaged, with a very informative booklet included filled with little "secrets" of each episode. Intriguing 60's Classic
I am sure this series may be a matter of taste, but it is British writing, style and imagination that for me has been second to none in television programing. This particular 40th anniversary set has some great additional bonus features and is well transferred to DVD. If you are a fan of the show, or someone nostalgic for great British imports that combine wit, adventure and a bit of fantasy from the 60's this might be right up your alley. It was stated in many published articles about the series that the 17th and final episode is a bit puzzling, but the show's creator and star the late Patrick McGoohan said he wanted to leave each viewer their own interpretation. Apparently many people were upset by the ending. Although a bit anti-climatic for me too, I still really loved watching this series and recommend it! I was 12 when it first aired and it had no appeal then but yes I am older and now it makes sense. Very happy I made the decision to give it a try.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Prophetic series 50 years ahead of its time.
Great series from the 1960's with a lot of useful critique on the surveillance state and where we are today. Saw it along time ago and just watched it again. Chillingly prophetic ... just look at what various commonwealth countries are doing to their citizens in league with the leftist media and big tech and banking... esp Tyrant Trudeau and the vaccine mandates there, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Mind blowing. A complete package.

I love the Prisoner!

Classic TV show
