Cory Doctorow, Boing Boing "Each cover does a pretty spectacular job of evoking the mood of the title in bold, screenprint-style iconography." Dan Solomon, Fast Company

  • Shirley Jackson's classic still stands tall

Classic horror. Subtle, slow building psychological drama with a surprise ending. No blood and guts, but keeps you on your seat by telling you the characters thoughts, and showing how they gradually change to let you know the way your mind can be affected without you being aware of it.

  • More character development than paranormal, but good

It is huge on character development, unlike any more modern novel, but it is very well done. I'm 1/3 through the haunted house novel and the character has just now arrived at Hill House. Hopefully some seemingly paranormal action happens soon or it will get boring.

Book arrived as described. This is a book I read many times when in school. I just thought it would be nice to have a copy.

  • A great idea but not for me.

The idea of the story is good. However, maybe due to my generations desensitized nature, it wasn’t scary. I kept reading hoping that it was going to build up into something more, and it never did.

  • You’ll wonder what is really going on

Modern classic story woven around interesting characters whose energies may be stimulating haunting activity in a creepy Victorian mansion. Read alone into the dead of night if you dare!

  • Unbeatable Jackson Book

Shirley Jackson was a Master writer of novels that were the best of this genre, fulfilling the need for strong plots, beautifully developed characters, and building the suspense to the climax, all done with superb craftmanship that is true of all of Jackson's literature. She was the best!
