Liza with a Z sparkles in the artistic quality of the performance and the content of the songs in the concert and the special segments included in the
Liza Minnelli is a born entertainer, with a very engaging and friendly personality which transfers to a fantastic rapport with the audience on this DVD. She does a first rate version of all the main songs from Cabaret, and a very appealing, but different, rendition of the theme song from Ryan's Daughter, put to words, and called It Was a Good Time. But my very favourite track would be the hilarious and tongue in cheek Ring Them Bells, which Liza and her stylish and energetic dancers carry off in an extremely entertaining and slightly ironic manner. She finishes with a great version of Cabaret, and I was very interested and heartened to watch the extra film clip of her presentation of the prestigious and well deserved GLAAD Award from Mandy Moore, in which Liza performs in her unequalled fashion the very thought provoking song written by Charles Aznavour, called What Makes a Man a Man. Recommended viewing for all who buy this DVD and hopefully this short clip will make some people think of the conflict experienced by their fellow human beings who don't conform to "the norm" when it comes to gender and sexuality. To sum up, Liza with a Z deserves the highest accolades and the prolonged applause at the end of the concert, from her peers, is certainly well deserved.
