Powerful, creepy, thought-provoking.
Black & white film, loud music score, full of suspense and threat. Of it's time of course, no tvs or mobile phones, which adds to the overall effect. Robert Mitchum has such a powerful presence on screen, I would always recommend this film.

A classic with top actors and production.
This is the 1991 version and the title put on this requested review is 2005.the question you ask is "why is it better than expected? This is (1991) the better one !
