With age comes wisdom
Rick Astley has always had a great voice. I was on holiday in Greece on the island of Kos when I first heard the irresistible beat of Never Gonna Give You Up. But what made my ears price up was the deep, resonant vocal that punched it's way over the top. It had the mellifluous tone that always distinguished Nat King Cole but with a modern twist. I was smitten. Now many years later Mr Astley gifts us his take on a classic repertoire that encompasses his love of wonderful songwriting. Every track on Portrait is beautifully executed. Where the cynics might decry this collection as "schlock" I adore it's integrity and humanity. Listen not to the false prophets.
