captivating, but typical nordic story of struggle and maybe redemption
I'm only partly through the book, about 40%. But the writing is very nice, images strong. Story in the middle ages, fascinating look back at the times. It's a compelling read, and the writing is highly "available," meaning although it is a looong book at over 1100 pages, it begins cleanly, clearly, and grippingly, and so it is not necessary to trudge for a bit to get into the story. You are there from page one. I don't need to finish the book in order to be able to say I highly recommend that you read the book.
