SynopsisFirst published in 1949 and praised in The New York Times Book Review as "a trenchant book, full of vigor and bite," A Sand County Almanac combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with an outspoken and highly ethical regard for America's relationship to the land.Written with an unparalleled understanding of the ways of nature, the book includes a section on the monthly changes of the Wisconsin countryside;another part that gathers informal pieces written by Leopold over a forty-year period as he traveled through the woodlands of Wisconsin, Iowa, Arizona, Sonora, Oregon, Manitoba, and elsewhere; and a final section in whichLeopold addresses the philosophical issues involved in wildlife conservation. As the forerunner of such important books as Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire, and Robert Finch's The Primal Place, this classic work remains as relevant today as it was forty years ago., First published in 1949 and praised in The New York Times Book Review as "a trenchant book, full of vigor and bite," A Sand County Almanac combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with an outspoken and highly ethical regard for America's relationship to the land. • Good book for Wildlifers

Leopold's A Sand County Almanac was written many years ago but the content is still very much relevant to anyone interested in wildlife conservation. He lends a sort of poetry to the words that makes the reader feel like they are right there with him on his farm. The book is an easy read and full of insight.

  • Takes you back to a simpler time

We are in a Naturalist class and this was the first book given to us. Love the writings. It takes me back to a simpler time and place. Lovely relaxing reading with a load of knowledge.

Book is too difficult to read to young kids unless you add your own translation of the words while reading, but i enjoyed it thoroughly!

  • poor quality edition yucky paper

This particular edition is really crummy with thin see-through bad-feeling paper pages, it's about the worst paperback experience I have come across, and I really regret owning it. I cannot bear to read the beautiful words in this, while my fingers cringe at the yucky paper and thoughtless publishing of this particular edition.

  • Insightful read

Written in 1949, A Sand County Almanac is a blueprint for approaching environmental/conservation issues. Leopoldo's own evolution in his way of thinking regarding these issues is an non-threatening awakening we could all follow.
