In November 2018, The Doobie Brothers returned to the Beacon Theatre for the first time in 25 years to perform two of their landmark albums, Toulouse Street and The Captain And Me. This Blu Ray edition captures the full video performance from both albums in their entirety, plus three encore tracks. This historic performance at the Beacon offered an opportunity for Doobie fans to hear deep cuts and songs never-before performed live by the band, such as “Mamaloi,” “O’Connelly Corners,” “Ukiah,” and “The Captain And Me.” The show begins with the 10 songs from the group’s second studio album, Toulouse Street. Originally released in 1972, it’s been certified platinum. Several of the band’s most popular songs first appeared on the album, including “Jesus Is Just Alright” and “Listen To The Music,” the latter presented here with a brand new arrangement featuring horns. Next, The Doobie Brothers played its third studio release, The Captain And Me. Originally released in 1973, it reached #7 on the Album Chart and has been certified double platinum. Hits include “Long Train Runnin’,” “China Grove” and “South City Midnight Lady.” The show ended with a three-song encore that included their #1 hit “Black Water.” Tracklist: 1. Doooooobs!
Fantastic to hear these two albums live. A real treat. Instrumentally very tight and precise as always. Loved the slightly different compositions of these tunes. Would have given 5 stars had the lead vocals not started to struggle as the concert progressed. Harmonies were stellar, but Pat's vocals were really thin. Tommy's voice might have held out for the whole show if he would forgo the unnecessary stuff. If you are a long time Doobie Bros. fan like me, you will enjoy this DVD. The Doobie's are a feel good band. They make you want to sing and dance along with every song Timeless music that takes you back to the good time music of the 70's. If you like the Doobie Brothers, you're going to love this show!
The Beacon Theater is probably one of the best venues for any group to play. The acoustics are outstanding. Hearing the Doobie Brothers reprise their first two albums back to back was awesome! Well filmed and the soundtrack on DTS is like being there.
