Set in Australia in 1931, RABBIT-PROOF FENCE tells the story of a government policy that required "half-caste" children (whose mothers were Aboriginal and whose fathers were white) to be taken from their homes by the authorities to be trained to work as servants. Based on the true story of Molly Craig, Philip Noyce's film of small gestures and few words follows the odyssey of three young girls who escaped from the government's training facility and, using the country's long stretches of rabbit-proof fences as their guide, walked 1500 miles to get back home.Told squarely from Molly's point of view, RABBIT-PROOF FENCE also highlights the Australian government's treatment of Aboriginies by A.O. Neville (Kenneth Branagh), the legal guardian of the country's indigenous people. His plan to "breed out" the Aboriginal blood of the half-castes is marked by a cool calculation and moral blindness that stands out in sharp contrast to Molly's spiritual and intuitive relationship to the people and places she encounters on her journey.

In my opinion 🤫
Very interesting to see how some cultures have endured supremacy of government in countries other than USA. I enjoyed the young actors. This was a very good film, pretty well written and directed. ☺️

Great story, well told, history most do not know
Great story, well told. based on true story of young indigenous (aboriginal) girls' trek to reunite with their family. Lots of history about Australia's policies to both save and destroy the native people. Also see 'The Sapphires' as a companion story in the 1960s. Both excellent

Stolen children try to walk home across Australia.
Disclaimer, I haven’t seen this yet; it was a gift for my mother, who loved “Walkabout.” She reports the DVD arrived in excellent condition, in new or like-new packaging, and played perfectly. She has loaned it on to my sisters. When this pandemic gets under control I will go watch it with her!! “Rabbit Proof Fence” is based on a memoir, and the actual author has a little cameo in the beginning. And the fabulous David Gulpilil (who was the Walkabout boy in Walkabout) plays a tracker in this movie. My mother also says: watch all the extras at the end; lots of great stories about casting and directing.

Aborigine girl escapes from boarding school and makes long, dangerous journey home.
So grateful to find this rare movie that illustrates an important life lesson for Christian youth from Blockbuster Movie Illustrations -The Return. Painful reminder of how Australians once tried to force half-caste Aborigines to assimilate into mainstream culture by separating children from their parents. Better to learn to avoid racism and inequality from watching a movie than hurting real people on the mission field. Thanks ebay! Quick service, good price. Happy collector...

Down to earth story of the times similar to right now BTW. Some things never change.
