90s Nostalgic Magic!

They don't make them like this anymore.
Fans familiar with the more current dub of the original (pre Z) Dragonball would be surprised to learn that there was a previous attempt to dub the show in the mid 90's. Produced by BLT and Funimation, and voiced by the Ocean Group, the first 13 episodes of Dragonball were run as a syndication package, and as such tended to air at funny time slots depending on the broadcast channel. To say the episodes are edited would be an understatement, but as a syndicated show, the restrictions were actually far looser than the DBZ dub it came before (think the 90s Iron Man cartoon compared to the Spider-man cartoon from the same time). This collection serves as something of a time capsule, from before anime could be shown on TV mostly faithfully, and a reminder of how far it's come. There's a lot to enjoy here, the voice acting is good, the writing pretty sharp and the American-made musical score is catchy (the opening in particular is 90s awesomeness in the guitar-laden vein of Power Rangers). This set covers the "Emperor Pilaf" Arc and, while ending hundreds of episodes early, stops at a natural place in the story rather than cutting off in the middle of it. Final verdict: get this at a good price and take a journey back to the 90's. Even if just to have fun comparing the episodes to their later dubs.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht
