Gale Sayers (Williams) joins the Chicago Bears as a running back and meets the competitive Brian Piccolo (Caan). While at first the two are rivals, they soon form a strong friendship. 5 Stars In All Respects
One of the first made for TV movies, this is a classic! It made a star out of Billy Dee Williams and cemented James Caan career as a leading man. The story of the friendship between Brian Piccolo and Gayle Sayers is so touching! And as an added bonus there is an interview with Gayle Sayers who passed away recently. 5 stars in all respects!!!!

Belongs in your collection if you have a friend .
This is an iconic football film about friendship,teamwork,sportsmanship and ultimately love . I bought it because I have seen it before . Two men as different as they could be by personality and race ( Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers) form a bond of friendship over their love for the game of football . Each in his own turn suffers a health issue and the other is there to support him in his time of need . There is actual game footage of them with The Chicago Bears . More than one man has shed a tear watching this buddy film and that's OK .

BEST MOVIE EVER!!!
This is my favorite movie ever. It was made for tv in the 70’s when Blacks and Whites could tease each other about their differences and their stereotypes. No political correctness here, just fun and love and friendship between two football players of different races. Everyone today should watch this movie to see how it could be if we would stop with the hypersensitivity and hatred. The remake in the 90’s is terrible.

Original Brian's Song Movie on DVD
One of the best & most moving made for TV movies ever, because of the well acted and endearing characters.. I've watched this movie dozens of times in the last 4 decades and it never fails to bring me to tears at the end. Glad to now own it on DVD, so I can watch it anytime.

Great movie for any football fan or anyone who enjoys a true story. I love this story; I own all of the books and this movie really captures the values & friendship that these 2 men shared. Excellent movie!!!!

This is an Incredible Movie. I watched it back in the early 80’s and it has been one of my all time favorites. This movie speaks about humanity. This is a true story about Friendship. This movie is not PC and everything about their friendship went against “the times”. If you are Ever lucky enough to have friend like either of these guys you truly are lucky.

This Brians song is the best with James Caan, Billy Dee Williams and Jack Warden. It is a true classic and heart warming story of which is acted tremendously. There was another brians song done but this is the best and was so glad to watch it again as is a heartwarming story.

This film, if released today, would be a box office disaster. Anyone 55 or younger would find it of little interest, That said, a heart rendering true professional football story. Two thumbs up . . . . But watch out progressive purists, for the spoken the N-word!!!!!!! [8-0 !

Sentimental and touching
I remember being touched by the story when it first came out. It was a great example of friendship between two races during the difficult time of racism. I did notice that filming has greatly improved over the last 50 years but the essence of the story came through fine.

Excellent '70s Movie with Real NFL Footage
True story told well, this movie is a classic that will never feel dated to watch. The characters are written and acted honestly, unlike most movies put out by Hollywood today, and the story is melancholic but truly joyful.
