Two modern American teenagers are sucked into their television set and end up living in a black-and-white fifties sitcom. Bewildered by their new world's naivete and innocence, they slowly start to add color and spice to the town's life. Eventually, however, they begin to question their influence, wondering if their advanced 90's attitudes are really that much better than those of the innocent past. Sterling effects and stand-out performances make this commentary on modern life a poignant, entertaining effort.

Enjoyable time-travel tale.
Inventive, very entertaining film that seems to have been largely forgotten since its original release. Siblings Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon find themselves zapped back in time to the world of the 1950s black-and-white sitcom, "Pleasantville." How they adjust (or not) without interfering with the carefully scripted lives of the sitcom characters -- and ultimately how do they get back to their present-day reality -- is the essence of the story. A bit reminiscent of "Back to the Future," but with underlying themes of morality, repression and racism. Not as heavy as that may sound. And enjoyable and thought-provoking film.

Great movie to share with your younger girl friends (around age 30)
I loved this movie when it came out. Don Knots was on tv when I was a kid on the Andy Griffith Show. I bought this dvd to share with a younger girlfriend who had never seen it. She loved it!

One of my favorite movies!
I'm a big fan of vintage everything, so this movie is very visually appealing. It also has a great cast. It also has Don Knotts and Paul Walker, who were favorites who are dearly missed. I like the whole theme of the movie. It's definitely worth the cost. My DVD skipped a bit at the beginning, but it was minor, and since I still have an "old school" DVD player, I expect some skipping.

Growing up in the 50"s this movie made me think about how great and simple and happy that era was. I loved this movie!

Great deal

Title fitting to substance
Great, simple and entertaining movie. Very thought provoking, funny and a look back at simpler times. Tobey McGuire is a great actor.

Unbeliveable from the start.
They actually believe a TV show is real people! No a TV show is scripted and all the people are illusions of a writers imagination. They are like puppets on a string.The whole idea that they control what they do is flawed!!!
