This remake of the 1943 film A GUY NAMED JOE stars Richard Dreyfuss as Pete Sandich, a daredevil pilot who specializes in putting out forest fires. Pete promises his girlfriend, Dorinda (Holly Hunter), that he will stop flying, but when his best friend, Al (John Goodman), gets into engine trouble while fighting a blaze, Pete attempts a daring rescue--saving his friend but killing himself. Waking up in the afterlife, Pete meets an angel, Hap (Audrey Hepburn), who sends him back to earth as a ghost no one can see or hear. When Dorinda flies into a fire to save trapped smoke jumpers, Pete telepathically talks her through the dangerous mission. Hap tells Pete he must help Dorinda overcome her grief and lead her to a new love with a novice pilot (Brad Johnson). While Pete watches the two start their romance, he battles feelings of jealousy and sadness at giving her up. Steven Spielberg and Richard Dreyfuss, while working together on JAWS in 1975, found that they shared an affinity for the 1943 film A GUY NAMED JOE. Dramatic with a funny side.
This movie is not only heart-warming and dramatic at times, it's also funny and inspirational. I have loved it since it first came out back in 1989. The Characters are well thought out and portrayed very well by the actors. John Goodman never fails to make me laugh. You will be surprised by Richard Dreyfuss. Always
With most modern movies being sex, violence, and that, this movie is refreshing and innocent. Has a terrific moral to the story, interesting characters, supporting characters (Dale Dye is outstanding as always), the crazy old hobo in the airplane hangar is another scene stealer. My favorite scene and one that always brings a tear to my eye no matter how many times I see the movie, is when Richard Dreyfuss' character "dances" with Holly Hunter's character to the tune "Smoke Gets In You Eyes" Bittersweet happy ending, very entertaining story, never boring which has taught ME the lesson, never let things unsaid because the next minute may be too late...………...Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Wonderful romantic film
Steven Spielberg's film based on the classic Spencer Tracy WWII movie entitled A Guy Named Joe. A great adventure film with great aviation sequences along with forest fire fighters and a wonderful romantic theme.
