Imperial Japan's first indigenously produced tank
This kit is apparently the only 1/35 kit of the Type 89 in injection plastic, so unless one pays far more to obtain a limited edition resin kit, this is your best bet!
Fortunately, Fine Molds produces superbly detailed model kits respected for their accuracy and attention to rare Imperial Japanese subjects like the Type 89. This kit represents the early version--the Ko--but another Fine Molds kit provides the later Otsu variant.
Although all the instructions are printed in Japanese, pictorial illustrations clearly guide assembly. The various marking schemes are identified by a few English words, including references to these tanks serving in China, the Philippines, and Japan. No markings for the 1939 Battle of Kholkin Gol are provided, which is my only disappointnent with this kit.
Nevertheless, it's an excellent kit I fully recommend to everyone interested in this historic tank, which if memory serves was the very first tank designed and built by the Japanese.
