Use supeglue.
These a very fiddly to fit as the components are loose and slippy until you have tightened them to the vehicle. In the end I used tiny specks of superglue to hold the metal backplate to the main bracket (which also captivates the upper sliding catch) then it was easy. Fiamma wall brackets
The design makes them awkward to fit and I am a time served engineer. The stainless steel plates I had to super glue in place to stop them falling out of position when screwing to the van. Once in place the slide clip wall brackets work fine, and now I can wind out the awning a metre or so and have the leg attached to the van and out of the way. Work well at an acceptable price.
I use these brackets, on the side of my camper, whenever I'm on a hard standing. They are great for securing the awning in position when ground anchoring is not an option.

I've had these on my van few months now & they are fantastic u do need to watch how tight u screw them on as they can be stiff after grit gets in & u will need bolts not screws
