Terrific product, all the DAP you need, why spend more?
A compact, well made DAP which has a powerful headphone output and a balanced output for those who prefer it. The UI is good, these days most DAPs are Android type devices, this has a scroll wheel control and a much simpler UI with none of the functionality of Android devices but it is intuitive and easy to use. This is just an audio player, but sound quality is superb, it's got a real quality feel and it can drive headphones to a high volume even in single ended output. I have used it with Beyerdynamic T5P gen 2, Oppo PM-2 and Audio Technica MSR-7NC headphones, all are low impedance easy to drive headphones but nevertheless this can drive all of them very loud. I tried the balanced output with my T5Ps and although you do benefit from more power I found the single ended output more than loud enough with no difference in sound quality. Sound is pretty much transparent which is a compliment in my book. Is it worth carrying a separate DAP? Sound quality is a bit better than most smartphones and if you use wired headphones then fewer and fewer smartphones seem to have a headphone jack, so yes there is still a use for DAPs. You can spend an awful lot more than this one costs, but given how solidly built it feels, the excellent sound quality, balanced output and the fact it can drive headphones to suitably loud volume I am not sure why anybody would really need to spend more.
