Excellent book for garden plant choices
An amateur botanist, my principal resource has become the Web since books have soared in cost. However, for browsing nothing beats a book. Thus I have shelves of books, but the best references, the American Horticultural Society encyclopedias, were simply too expensive. EBay solved that problem. This particular volume has a wealth of information suitable for most gardeners who think in terms of plant types such as trees, shrubs, etc. and colors. I use the AHS’s more expansive A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants more often as by training I think of plants by their binomial names. Nevertheless, it is Plants and Flowers I consult to find, for example, a shrub that won’t clash with my orange Geums.

Helpful Reference
This is a great book for all levels of gardeners. It is well organized and has a wealth of information. It covers plants for all types of soils and conditions with a full dictionary in the back of the book.
